Veg Thali Indian restaurants in Tashkent

There are quite a few Indian restaurants in Tashkent. I have eaten at all of them. I’ll review the food at each restaurant based on general Indian preferences. This is purely my opinion, based on my Indian taste. Honest reviews is all you get here.

Kaarvan Indian restaurant: Sebzor St 3, 100011, Tashkent

Certainly one of the best North Indian restaurants in Tashkent. It is also a bar and you could get a cold beer and other drinks. The Kitchen staff is Indian and it is operated by Indians. The food was good I had tried the veg thali. The portions were decent. The tawa roti with butter tastes like it would in Delhi or the northern India. The thali had paneer curry, mix veg, daal makhni, raita, biryani rice, carrot halwa and 3 rotis. They did not have papad and it was weird! the waiter who was Uzbek said “it is difficult to get papad in Uzbekistan”. After having the Thali, I ordered “Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani” which was a disaster. I’m not sure if the waiter got the right dish. The biryani he brought was neither Dum biryani nor Hyderabadi. By the way I’m from Hyderabad. When I asked him if this was what I ordered, he replied “Hyderabadi biryani is too spicy, This is chicken biryani”. Obviously the service staff needed more training and awareness of the dishes on the menu.

My final order was samosa and Jalebi. They were freshly made, served hot with ketchup and green chutney. This was certainly the best part of the meal at Kaarvan. If I go there the next time, I’m going to order the samosa, onion bhaji and Jalebi for starters!

Raaj Kapur Indian restaurant: Uzbekiston Ovozi Street 2, Tashkent

The restaurant has good interiors and Indian Kitchen staff. My experience here was just ok. The portions were small and the taste of the food wasn’t very Indian. It felt customized to local taste. Butter chicken was too sweet and the naan wasn’t like in India. It felt like it was fried in a pan. Overall, its over priced and did not live up to my expectations.
